A lot of people shy away from buying suede/suedette shoes no matter how beautiful they are because, due to their textured nature they tend to get dirty more quickly than other shoe materials.

Suede is made from the flesh side of animal skin rubbed to give it a velvety nap.

Suedette on the other hand is an alternative to suede and is not sourced from animals, it is made from fibres such as cotton and rayon. It's a lot cheaper than suede because it is synthetically made. However it looks and feels the same as real suede. Most shoes are Suedette or 'Faux Suede' as you would have it but can be taken care of.

Moving on, before you wear your suede shoes, you should protect them by sealing with suede spray... Apply the spray holding up your can about 25-30cm away in short bursts till you cover the entire area of the shoes.

Leave them to air dry, brush the naps with a soft brush (a manicure brush will do just fine) and place them back on your shoe rack.
A manicure brush can be used in place of a suede brush

After wear, using your brush, brush off any dirt or dust and protect them with your suede spray. We advice you put your shoes in a shoe bag when not in use to protect them from dust.

For oily or greasy stains, talcum powder works wonders, apply a little amount to the problem area and leave it for a few hours to soak up the oil. Brush off the excess powder and seal with your suede spray.

If you happen to get your shoes unavoidably wet,
1. Mop them dry using a bath towel.
2. Stuff them with paper to soak up the excess water.
3. Leave them to dry out naturally.
4. Use a suede eraser (or improvise with a tikky 20 eraser, remember those??) to lose any dirt or
    debris.
5. Treat any stains immediately with vinegar. Apply some vinegar to a piece of dry cloth and clean
the stained area till the scuff or stain is gone.
6. Brush back the naps in place and protect with your suede spray.

vinegar works wonders in cleaning stains off your suedette/faux suede shoes
